Ecological Systems – Effects of New Technologies

Man is a social animal. Society is an interconnected ecosystem. Ecological systems are the tools to examine the relationships within communities and societies. The ecological/systems framework is vital for human welfare and survival, as they provide the basic code of human existence (Edinburgh sensors).

The latest trends in information technology are making the global world easily accessible with greater mobility. Technology is a two-faced coin. It can save time, money, effort, and manpower. On the other hand, it increases the risk of health issues, immoral culture, reduced tolerance, and widens inter-relational gaps.

The world is progressing by leaps and bounds. Every day is a day of invention and modernization. Trends, tweets, posts, likes, followers, subscribers, and viewers are new viral terms in today’s world. Young generations are indulging in their gadgets. This results in an increased generation gap. Quality time spending is becoming a myth and standards are changing.

Technology is taking us away from the company of our elders. People are socializing over social media rather than socializing physically. You may have 1000 friends on your social media but in real life, you hardly may meet 10 people in a week. A friend in need is a friend indeed – but the friends are not real and life is meta-physical.

Parks and Playgrounds are getting vacant. They are losing their importance in society. Playgrounds are considered hectic and dangerous. Children prefer online gaming platforms. Excess and ease of access to gadgets are creating a void in the health sector. Coming generations are forgetting the importance of a universal fact – “A healthy body has a healthy mind”.

Technotrash, also known as electronic waste (Jennifer Okafor), is any wasted or unwanted electrical or electronic device. This is the most rapidly-growing type of waste which contains non-biodegradable materials, and toxic materials like cadmium, lead, and mercury. Factories and industries are taking place of forests. Clearing green is up-setting the food chain which will greatly affect the environment’s natural cycles.

Lack of green computing and freedom of access to social media, and increased screen time are creating in-door-oriented minds. Such minds are getting away from nature and close to artificial evolution. This situation will create a psychological emergency in the coming decades and create a generation with minimal social quotient. You can contact us for more insights: baseer.softengr@gmail.com
