YouTube is to Stop Sending Email Alerts to the Subscribers

Big news for YouTube content creators and channel managers is that YouTube finally decides to stop sending email notifications to the subscribers!

Because only 0.1% of the emails are viewed by the users. It might be a moment of shock for video creators but don’t worry! Your channel is still safe and it will still grow.

YouTube is the most popular American online video sharing platform with its headquarters in San Bruno, California.

YouTube announced that from August 13th, 2020 users will no longer get email notifications of any new videos and live streams posted by their subscribed
channels.

If they stop sending emails then how are users supposed to be notified about the
videos and live streams? YouTube answered this and as per YouTube:

If you’re opted in to get emails about new uploads, live streams, and premieres from channels you’re subscribed to, these emails are going away on August 13th, 2020. You’ll still get notified on mobile via the YouTube app, or on desktop via your Chrome browser if you’ve turned these notifications on. If you haven’t turned these on yet, you can do so in notification Settings.

YouTube did a survey by stopping emails for a while and no changes were observed in views and other activities of people on the site. So this is not something to panic about.

This is a huge change for a company like YouTube as none of the famous platforms have done this before except LinkedIn.

Should you worry about that?

As a content creator, channel manager, or subscriber should you worry about this?

If YouTube stops sending you emails then how are you supposed to be notified about the videos and live streams? YouTube content creators are concerned about their videos not getting more views but they don’t have to worry. Their views will not be affected as 99.9% of the users ignore the email according to YouTube.

According to an official statement by YouTube:

We didn’t see any impact to watch time when we experimented with turning off these emails. In fact, our tests showed that when we don’t send these emails, more people engage with mobile push notifications and their Subscription feed.

The users will be notified about the updates via the mobile app and the desktop site. But users will still get emails about important updates like name changes and other system changes.

As per YouTube:

The tests we conducted showed that when we stopped sending notification emails, users were more likely to engage with mobile push notifications and their Subscriptions feed

As we know there are other ways to promote videos like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
So sending emails which no one even bothers to open is a waste of time, power, and money.

Why Is YouTube Doing This?

Users complain about getting emails from several channels in one day which is annoying and the majority of them do not bother to open their email and go to YouTube. As per YouTube:

Less than 0.1% of these emails are opened, and people have told us that these emails contribute to inbox overload – we hope this change helps you more easily spot and pay attention to the important emails YouTube sends about your account, mandatory service announcements, etc. as no other types of emails are going away.

So YouTube decided to finally end these email alerts. Only 0.1% of the users open the emails which are neglectable and it is an extra operation that requires more money and workforce to send and manage email notifications of every new video and live stream to millions of users in the world.

Users should focus better on their important emails rather than to find their important emails in a bunch of spam YouTube emails which is obviously annoying.

What do you guys think? I’m glad they finally took this step. I was so annoyed by their emails.
